Jayawijaya regent to assume new post
MANADO, North Sulawesi: Col. J.B. Wenas, the regent of drought-stricken Jayawijaya regency in Irian Jaya, will soon assume a new post as the vice governor of North Sulawesi in charge of people's welfare.
Antara reported that the appointment has been approved by both the minister of home affairs and the Armed Forces headquarters.
North Sulawesi Governor E.E. Mangindaan said the provincial legislative council would soon process the appointment, and it is expected that by next month, Wenas will have been sworn in.
Wenas will replace Achmad Nadjamuddin who has been installed as the deputy chairman of the legislative council. (swe)
