Jayawijaya Regency Targets 18 Locations for Merah Putih Cooperative Outlets

The Jayawiliaya Regency Government in Highland Papua has set a target to establish 18 locations for Merah Putih Village/Sub-district Cooperative (KDKMP) outlets to improve community welfare.

“We have identified 18 points where Merah Putih Village Cooperatives will be built in Jayawijaya to assist the local economy,” stated Jayawijaya Regent Atenius Murib in a written statement in Wamena on Sunday.

He noted that, alongside the Highland Papua Provincial Government, the first Merah Putih Cooperative outlet was launched earlier this year in Walak Village, Asologaima District, Jayawijaya Regency.

According to the Regent, the construction of these outlets will be carried out by the central government through relevant ministries and agencies. “The development of the Merah Putih Cooperative outlets will be undertaken by the central government; our role at the local level is to facilitate the land that will be used for building these people’s cooperatives,” he said.

He explained that the local government fully supports the national Merah Putih Cooperative programme to drive economic growth across all corners of Highland Papua, particularly in Jayawijaya.

“The President has a clear vision for supporting the economy in the remote parts of the country, one of which is by encouraging the establishment of Merah Putih Cooperatives. In principle, we support this programme as a means to stimulate the community economy, starting from the village level,” he added.

He further noted that the Merah Putih Cooperative programme is a flagship government initiative implemented systematically from the central government down to the provincial and regency levels. “Remember, the Merah Putih Cooperative is not for the TNI (Indonesian National Armed Forces) or the government, but truly for the people, so that the benefits can be genuinely felt,” he concluded.
