Jayawijaya Government Strengthens Custom-Based MSME Competencies
The Jayawijaya Regency Government in Papua Pegunungan is strengthening the competencies of custom-based micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) through its Culture and Tourism Office. Head of the Jayawijaya Regency Culture and Tourism Office, Engelbert ChW Sorabut, stated on Tuesday that the programme is being developed with the involvement of indigenous communities. “We are coaching MSME actors, who are predominantly indigenous people or native Papuans in Jayawijaya, who produce various cultural ornaments. The Regional National Crafts Council (Dekranasda) then assists in marketing these cultural products,” he said. He added that the products produced by the assisted MSMEs include woven noken bags made from natural materials, carvings, and processed coffee. “We hope these assisted groups will continue to progress and develop with tangible support from the Jayawijaya Regency Dekranasda,” he remarked. He explained that the assisted MSME groups will participate in a cultural exhibition to be held in Makassar, South Sulawesi, in July 2026. “We are confident that the cultural exhibition to be attended by these assisted MSMEs will yield good results at the national Dekranasda event in Makassar,” he said. Meanwhile, the Chairperson of the Jayawijaya Regency Dekranasda, Idawati Waromi, stated that her team has prepared a selection of superior cultural products to be exhibited at the national Dekranasda event. “We will bring natural, handmade products, using natural materials to give a natural impression at the Dekranasda event in Makassar,” she said.
