The Jayawijaya Regency Government in Papua Pegunungan has confirmed the area is included in the programme ‘Presiden RI Prabowo Subianto Menyapa’ for the opening of the 2026 World Cup. Acting Head of the Jayawijaya Communication, Informatics, Statistics and Encoding Agency, Imanuel H Medlama, stated in Wamena on Tuesday that Jayawijaya’s name has been placed on the agenda for President Prabowo Subianto to greet the public via videotron during the 2026 World Cup event. “For this reason, we plan to set up a videotron for communal football viewing in Wamena, Jayawijaya Regency, so that when the president greets us, the entire community of Jayawijaya can watch it together in one location,” he said. According to him, a coordination meeting regarding the plan to broadcast football matches via videotron will be held with the provincial board of PSSI Papua Pegunungan and other relevant elements. “We will hold a coordination meeting with the PSSI Papua Pegunungan board regarding the communal watching event, or nobar, using the local government’s videotron,” Imanuel H Medlama stated. He explained that screening the 2026 World Cup using a videotron serves as the local government’s support for the enthusiasm of the Jayawijaya community to watch the match live. “We want to provide a service to the community so they can watch the World Cup properly and celebrate together,” said Imanuel H Medlama. He expressed hope that the Jayawijaya community will maintain security and order while watching the World Cup broadcast together via the videotron. “We hope the Jayawijaya community maintains security and order during the World Cup screening on the videotron, so that the broadcast can run continuously until the conclusion of the World Cup,” Imanuel H Medlama concluded.
