Jayapura hosts Papuan festival

JAYAPURA, Papua: Around 350 participants from seven municipalities and regencies across Papua province are taking part in a one-week Papuan cultural festival in Jayapura.

The annual event, which will last until Aug. 8, was opened by Papua Governor Jaap Salossa on Tuesday at the Waena Cultural Park, with all guests chewing betel nut together.

The festival is aimed at raising Papuans' awareness of their local culture. Various traditional dances, music, arts and food are featured in the event. --JP
