Jayakarta Hotel Labuan Bajo Closed After Severe Damage from M 7.7 Earthquake

The Jayakarta Hotel in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), has suffered severe damage from a magnitude 7.7 earthquake. Operations at the four-star hotel on Jalan Pantai Pede have now been temporarily suspended.

The earthquake, centred in Nagekeo, NTT, shook the region on Saturday (15/8/2026). Damage occurred in several parts of the hotel, including the ground floor.

“Yes (temporarily closed),” said General Manager of Hotel Jayakarta Labuan Bajo, Reynes Sahadoen, on Tuesday (18/8/2026).

The closure is being carried out for maintenance and recovery due to the damage caused by the earthquake. Hotel operations have been suspended since the first day of the quake.

“Starting 15 August 2026, The Jayakarta Suites Komodo-Flores will be temporarily closed until further notice to carry out maintenance and restoration,” said Reynes.

Severe damage is visible on the ground floor of the Jayakarta Hotel. The front wall, approximately 30 metres long, has been damaged, with parts of the wall having collapsed.

Bricks from the damaged wall sections can be seen scattered about. The ceiling on the ground floor also collapsed due to the earthquake’s tremors.

When the earthquake struck, all guests ran to save themselves. The guests were subsequently evacuated to a safe location after the incident.
