Java's Electricity System Gradually Recovers, Generation Reliability Strengthened
PT PLN (Persero) is continuing to strengthen the reliability of the Java electricity system, which is now gradually recovering. Efforts to normalise the grid include accelerating the recovery of power plants experiencing disruptions and securing primary energy supplies. PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo stated during a press conference at the Java, Madura, and Bali Load Control Centre (UIP2B Jamali) in Depok, West Java, on Sunday (21/6) that one of the Independent Power Producer (IPP) plants that suffered an operational disruption last week has been successfully restored. The plant resumed operations and was synchronised with the Java power system on Sunday at 18.00 Western Indonesia Time. “One of the major power plants that experienced a disruption has been successfully restored and synchronised with the Java Island electricity system, and has begun supplying power to enhance the reliability of the system. As a result, the rolling blackouts that occurred last week have now been significantly minimised,” Darmawan explained. In addition to the plant recovery, the condition of the Java Island electricity system continues to improve as the required primary energy supply is maintained. “We want to convey that the electricity system in Java is gradually improving. The primary energy supply that meets the specifications required by the power plants has been running smoothly, so efforts to strengthen generation are proceeding well,” Darmawan added. PLN expressed its appreciation for the government’s support through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) in strengthening the electricity system’s reliability. “We extend our deepest appreciation for the government’s support, in this case the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, especially to the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Mr Bahlil Lahadalia, for his support and coordination so that the entire electricity ecosystem can work together solidly to strengthen and make the Java Island electricity system more reliable,” said Darmawan. As a precautionary measure against future system dynamics, PLN is conducting intensive monitoring while strengthening generation reliability and primary energy supply chain management. “We continuously monitor the improvement efforts of the Java Island electricity system 24 hours a day, seven days a week, on an ongoing basis. We are making every effort to ensure that the improvements that have been made can be maintained and enhanced,” Darmawan stated. On the same occasion, PLN also apologised to the public for the inconvenience caused by load management in several areas. “We also wish to offer our sincerest apologies for the inconvenience experienced by the public due to the rolling blackouts that occurred last week,” Darmawan concluded.
