Javanese princess to wed

YOGYAKARTA: Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X, sultan of Yogyakarta, one of the remaining Javanese kingdoms, on Saturday led a traditional engagement ceremony for his eldest daughter, Gusti Raden Ajeng Nurmalitasari.

Herbudi Desaryanto asked for the hand of the princess after going out with her for five years, Antara reported.

The ceremony, held at the Keraton (palace), saw Heru Sudjada, Herbudi's father, handed a letter of proposal written in Javanese ancient characters to the sultan.
