Javanese cannibal declared nuts
SEMARANG: Sumanto, a local 31-year-old man who confessed to
eating the bodies of at least three people in the Central Java
regency of Purbalingga, had been diagnosed as a psychopath
according to the analysis of police psychiatrists, the local
police said Thursday.
Head of the local police's psychology department Adj. Sr. Comr
Purnomo said that Sumanto understood his actions and had even
planned them well.
Sumanto of the Palumutan village in Kemangkon subdistrict was
arrested last week after he allegedly ate the corpse of Rina, 80.
Police found in his home human bones and human flesh as well
as the clothes of his previous victims.
Sumanto said he wanted to eat seven human bodies to gain
supernatural powers.
Purnomo said that with the psychiatrist's findings, Sumanto
was fit to stand trial and could be held accountable for his
actions under Indonesian law. -- Antara
