Java needs more forests

JAKARTA: Reforestation should be intensified in Java to ensure sound ecological equilibrium on the island, an official says.

Public relations officer of the Ministry of Forestry Soeprayitno said that ideally, forests should cover 30 percent of the island. At present, forest covers 27.49 percent of Java.

He said that despite the lack of forest areas, the water crisis in Java has not been as severe as expected, Antara reported. (par)
