Java Marine enters Myanmar
RANGOON (DPA): Myanmar Shipyards and Java Marine Lines Pte
have signed a contract to build an 8-million-Singapore-dollar
(US$5.3-million), 56-metre-long ship to be used for offshore
drilling, news reports said Thursday.
The contract was signed in Rangoon on Wednesday between
Myanmar Shipyards managing director Percy Maung Maung and Java
Marine Lines managing director Pang Yoke Min, the New Light of
Myanmar newspaper, a government-run daily, said.
Java Marines Lines expects to sign two more ship-building
contracts with the Myanmarese shipyard within the next 13-15
months, said Pang, adding that a contract to build a 640-ton
landing craft was also signed on May 25.
Altogether the Indonesian firm has won ship-building contracts
worth 50 million Singaporean dollars, he said.
