Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) forecasts that weather in several areas of Java on Tuesday will be dominated by partly cloudy to heavily overcast conditions.

“Partly cloudy to heavily overcast conditions are forecast in Jakarta, Serang, Bandung, Semarang, Surabaya and Denpasar. Hazy conditions are possible in Yogyakarta, Mataram and Kupang,” BMKG forecaster Yuyun said in a broadcast monitored from Jakarta on Tuesday.

In Sumatra, light rain is possible in Banda Aceh, Medan, Pekanbaru, Padang and Bengkulu. Hazy conditions are forecast in Tanjung Pinang, Jambi, Palembang and Pangkal Pinang, while Bandar Lampung could experience smoky or foggy conditions.

In Kalimantan, light rain could fall in Pontianak, Tanjung Selor and Samarinda. Palangkaraya and Banjarmasin, meanwhile, could experience smoky or foggy conditions.

In Sulawesi, light rain is forecast in Mamuju, while hazy conditions could affect Palu, Gorontalo, Manado and Makassar.

Tropical Cyclone Champi, located in the Philippine Sea east of the Philippines, has a central pressure of 935 hectopascals, with maximum winds near its centre reaching 50 metres per second, or about 100 knots.

The cyclone could indirectly affect Indonesia by generating moderate sea conditions in the waters around the Talaud Islands, the Maluku Sea, waters north of Papua and the northern Pacific Ocean off Papua.

BMKG is also monitoring cyclonic circulations in the Andaman Sea, waters north of West Kalimantan and the South China Sea, which could increase the potential for rain-cloud formation in surrounding areas.

The agency has also urged the public to be alert to the possibility of waves reaching 2.5 to 4 metres in several Indonesian waters.

High waves are possible in the Indian Ocean west of the Mentawai Islands towards Lampung, the Indian Ocean south of Banten to East Nusa Tenggara, the Maluku Sea, and the Pacific Ocean north of North Maluku to Southwest Papua.
