Jatiwaringin Landfill Still Ablaze, Firefighting to Continue on Third Day

The Jatiwasting Landfill (TPA) area in Tangerang Regency, Banten, has been engulfed in flames since Tuesday, 30 June 2026. Firefighters from Tangerang Regency are set to continue firefighting operations on Thursday morning, marking the third day of the blaze.

“Spraying operations at TJW were halted (Wednesday night) and will resume tomorrow morning (Thursday),” stated a Tangerang Regency firefighter when contacted in the early hours of Thursday (2/7/2026).

Officials reported that the fire at the landfill has not yet been extinguished. Two water-bombing helicopters will be deployed to assist in the suppression process.

Previously, the National Disaster Management Agency (BNB) revealed that there are significant obstacles in managing the fire at the Jatiwaringim landfill, including the dry season and strong winds.

“As of now, the fire has not been extinguished due to the factor of strong winds in the Jatiwaringin landfill area,” said the Director of Coordination of Operations Control at BNPB, Brigadier General TNI Djohan Darmawan, on Wednesday (1/7) night.

Djohan stated that 10 fire engines were deployed tonight to combat the flames. Officers are maximising the use of water hoses from the fire engines to reduce the active fire points.

BNPB had also prepared two water-bombing helicopters to assist in the firefighting process. Djohan noted that the helicopter operations were suspended at 18:00 WIB and will resume tomorrow morning.

“As of 18:00, water bombing had been carried out; one water bomber unit was used for suppression. This will continue tomorrow with two water-bombing helicopter units,” he said.

“Therefore, the fire suppression efforts tonight will continue with 10 fire engines on standby. Firefighters are using hoses to extinguish the active flames,” Djohan added.

He explained that, so far, 30 families have been evacuated due to the fire at the Jatiwaringin landfill. The local government has also prepared medical teams to monitor the health of residents living near the site.
