Jatiwaringin Landfill Fire Still Uncontained After Four Days, Hotspots Diminish
Firefighters in Tangerang Regency are still struggling to extinguish a fire at the Jatiwaringin Final Processing Site (TPA) in Mauk District, Tangerang Regency, Banten. The number of hotspots has reportedly begun to decrease, but suppression efforts continued into the fourth day on Friday (3/7/2026).
“The scene is still in the process of being extinguished because there are still several hotspots, but it is not as severe as yesterday,” said a call centre officer from the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) and Fire Department of Tangerang Regency.
Today marks the fourth day of the response. The Jatiwaringin TPA has been burning since Tuesday (30/6). It was reported that since last night, the hotspots have started to diminish thanks to the assistance of two helicopters deployed for water bombing, along with support from other parties. Currently, joint personnel are still working to put out the fire.
“There has been progress compared to previous days. The main difficulty is that the piles of rubbish are high while the heat is deep inside, so the process takes a long time,” the officer added.
Today, officers deployed a total of around 11 to 12 fire engines to the location. Helicopters are also expected to remain on standby to conduct water bombing.
Based on preliminary assessment data from the Tangerang Regency Fire Department Operations Control Centre as of Thursday (2/7), a total of 30 families comprising 57 individuals have been affected by the Jatiwaringin TPA fire. In addition to deploying fire engines and water-bombing helicopters, officers have also mobilised heavy equipment such as bulldozers, excavators, wheel loaders, and dump trucks to handle the blaze.
The Tangerang Regency Government has declared a State of Emergency for the Jatiwaringin TPA Fire Disaster through Tangerang Regent Decree Number 609 of 2026, effective from 1 to 14 July 2026. All relevant elements continue to work in synergy to accelerate fire control and minimise the impact on the community and the environment.
