Jatiwaringin Landfill Fire Rages for Six Days, 232 People Displaced
A fire at the Jatiwaringin Final Processing Site (TPA) in Mauk District, Tangerang Regency, has remained unextinguished for six days. A total of 232 people have been displaced as a result of the blaze.
“232 people have evacuated to the Tanjakan Mekar Village Hall to avoid the adverse effects of thick smoke from the fire,” said Abdul Muhari, Head of the BNPB Data, Information and Disaster Communication Centre, to reporters on Sunday (5/7/2026).
Abdul explained that of the 15 hectares of land affected by the fire, 40 per cent has been extinguished. A state of emergency for the fire disaster has been in effect from 1 to 14 July.
“Firefighting efforts by land and air are still being carried out for the 60 per cent of the burned area that remains unextinguished, although it has been brought under control,” he stated.

The fire at the Jatiwaringin TPA in Tangerang Regency, Banten, has been burning since Tuesday (30/6). The Tangerang Regency Government has declared a state of emergency as the fire at the site has spread.
Deputy Minister of Environment (Wamen LH), Diaz Faisal Malik Hendropriyono, visited the fire site on Saturday (4/7/2026) afternoon. During the inspection, the Ministry of Environment’s Deputy for Law Enforcement, Rizal Irawan, presented the latest data on the expansion of the hotspots to Diaz.
“With your permission, Deputy Minister, I will explain the latest conditions regarding the monitoring object, namely the Jatiwaringin TPA, located in Mauk District, Tangerang Regency. The area of this TPA is approximately 33 hectares,” said Rizal Irawan at the location on Saturday (4/7).
He explained that based on monitoring up to last night, the fire had scorched nearly half of the total landfill area.
“Out of the 33-hectare area, as of last night, the burned area was estimated to have reached 15 hectares as of the night of 3 July. It has now spread to 15 hectares,” he clarified.
