Flames engulfing the Jatiwaringin Final Disposal Site (TPA) in Tangerang Regency continue to spread amidst hot weather and strong gusts of wind. The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) stated that the area affected by the fire has expanded to approximately 15 hectares. Behind the thick plumes of smoke, firefighters, BNPB personnel, health workers, and residents are working together to tackle the impact of the fire, which has not only incinerated mounds of waste but also disrupted the lives of the surrounding community. A BNPB MI-8AMT helicopter dropped thousands of litres of water onto hotspots that are difficult to reach from the ground. The water bombing effort was focused on the peaks of the waste piles still emitting flames and thick smoke. Coordination between firefighting personnel and the BNPB is ongoing to accelerate the extinguishing process. Beyond the effort to put out the fire, attention is also focused on public safety. The response to the fire is not only aimed at stopping the flames but also ensuring that residents living around the landfill receive protection and health services until the situation returns to normal.
