Jatiwaringin Landfill Fire Contained, Emergency Status Extended Until 14 July

“As directed by BNPB, we will continue dousing operations in an effort to treat all locations within the Jatiwaringin landfill.”

Tangerang Regency, Banten Province, is still enforcing a fire emergency status at the Jatiwaringin Final Disposal Site (TPA) in Mauk until 14 July 2026, even though disaster control efforts have been successfully handled.

Tangerang Regent Moch Maesyal Rasyid, speaking in Tangerang on Saturday, said the disaster emergency would remain in place for 14 days as part of the effort to fully extinguish the fire by officers from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) and the local Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD).

“As directed by BNPB, we will continue dousing operations in an effort to treat all locations within the Jatiwaringin landfill,” he said.

“After a survey was carried out across the entire site, both the western and eastern sectors up to the peak of the waste pile, thank God, no more smoke or fire was found,” he said.

He said that although the fire situation was under control, the state of emergency had not yet been lifted because the government would continue intensive monitoring until the designation expires on 14 July.

“We will see after the 14th whether it needs to be extended or whether conditions have subsided as they are now. We will see on the 14th,” he said.

“So our fleets, including aerial assets, if needed by the Regent or other regional heads for extinguishing forest and land fires or landfill fires, we are ready to help,” he said.

BNPB also reminded all regional governments that operate waste landfills to strengthen mitigation measures during the dry season.

“And going forward, this is also a lesson for all of us who have landfill areas to mitigate the potential for fires like what happened here. Starting with wetting operations and so on, because according to BMKG forecasts the weather is extremely hot and extreme,” said Riswandi.
