The Tangerang Regency administration in Banten Province is maintaining the emergency status for the fire at the Jatiwaringin Final Disposal Site (TPA) in Mauk until 14 July 2026, even though the disaster has been successfully brought under control. Tangerang Regent Moch Maesyal Rasyid stated on Saturday that the emergency status would remain in effect for 14 days as a measure to complete the fire suppression efforts by officers from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) and the local Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD). ‘In accordance with BNPB’s direction, we are still conducting damping down operations across all locations at the Jatiwaringin TPA,’ he said. ‘After surveying the entire site, both the western and eastern sectors up to the peak of the waste pile, Alhamdulillah, no more smoke or flames were found.’ He noted that although the fire situation is under control, the emergency status has not been lifted because the government will continue intensive monitoring until the designated period ends on 14 July. ‘We will see after the 14th whether it needs to be extended or if the conditions have stabilised as they are now. We will assess it on the 14th,’ he said. He added that aerial firefighting assets are ready to assist the Regent or other regional heads if needed for forest, land, or landfill fires. The BNPB also reminded all regional governments that manage landfill sites to enhance mitigation measures during the dry season. ‘Going forward, this is also a lesson for all of us who manage landfill areas to mitigate potential fires like the one that occurred here. This includes wetting down the site and other measures, because the weather, according to BMKG forecasts, is very hot and extreme,’ said BNPB official Riswandi.
