Jatiwaringin Landfill Fire Begins to Be Contained, 8 of 12 Hotspots Extinguished

The fire at the Jatiwaringin Final Processing Site (TPA) in Mauk, Tangerang Regency, is gradually being brought under control, with eight of the twelve identified hotspots now extinguished. Banten Police Chief Inspector General Hengki stated that joint personnel are still working intensively to cool the remaining hotspots to prevent the flames from spreading further. “From the monitoring results, 12 hotspots were identified. Alhamdulillah, to date, eight hotspots have been successfully extinguished,” Hengki said on Tuesday, 7 July 2026. He made the remarks during a direct inspection of the fire site alongside Tangerang Regent Moch. Maesyal Rasyid and representatives from various related agencies to ensure the handling process is proceeding according to plan. The landfill spans approximately 32 hectares, with around 15 hectares affected by the fire. According to the police chief, the fire initially broke out at the rear of the landfill area. Despite early extinguishing efforts by workers, hot weather and strong winds caused the flames to spread rapidly to other waste piles. Since the report was received, the Banten Regional Police, together with the Tangerang Police, local government, the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), the military (TNI), the Fire Department, the Health Department, and other stakeholders, have established an integrated response. In addition to firefighting operations, police personnel are securing the area, managing evacuation routes and refugee posts, and regulating traffic to ensure the smooth movement of operational vehicles.
