Jatiwaringin Landfill Emergency Status in Effect Until 14 July 2026

Tangerang Regency, Banten – The Tangerang Regency government has declared a disaster emergency status for the fire at the Jatiwaringin Final Disposal Site (TPA) in Mauk District, effective for two weeks from 1 to 14 July 2026, to optimise the joint response effort. Bupati Moch. Maesyal Rasyid stated that according to legislation, once the emergency decree is issued, the regulation applies for 14 days. However, he noted that if the disaster mitigation process proceeds optimally and swiftly, the emergency status could be adjusted based on conditions on the ground.

Deputy Minister of Environment Diaz Faisal Malik Hendropriyono said that joint firefighting operations are ongoing. His ministry has deployed thermal drones, which use infrared cameras to detect heat radiation, to analyse the fire sources and hotspots. Additionally, two mobile monitoring systems have been dispatched to monitor air quality at the site. The government, through the Ministry of Forestry, has also deployed 30 Manggala Agni personnel from Sulawesi and West Java, who are experienced and equipped with specialised high-pressure equipment to inject water directly into fire points beneath the surface of the waste pile. The Deputy Minister explained that this method is more optimal than merely spraying water from above.

Furthermore, the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) and the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) are preparing a Weather Modification Technology (TMC) operation to accelerate the extinguishing process. The operation is planned to commence as soon as possible to bring the 15-hectare fire under control.
