Sumarna (40), a security guard at Jatiluhur Reservoir, was found dead on the shore of the lake in the Ubrug Embankment area, Purwakarta Regency, West Java. The victim was discovered with both hands cuffed behind his back.

The body was found on Friday afternoon (24/7/2026) floating in the lake, still wearing his security guard uniform. Colleagues had been searching for Sumarna after losing contact with him since 3.00 a.m. local time. The search was conducted by the chief security guard and local residents around the reservoir area.

The body was eventually found floating near the water’s edge at around 11.00 a.m. Sumarna was known to be carrying out a night shift duty in the reservoir area before he was found dead.

Purwakarta Police Criminal Investigation Unit Head, AKP I Made Purwantara, confirmed the condition of the victim when found. Authorities are currently focusing on gathering evidence at the crime scene and questioning several key witnesses.

"The information we received is that the victim was found handcuffed and still wearing his duty uniform. We are still conducting further investigations to determine the exact cause of death, track down the perpetrator, and uncover the motive behind this incident," AKP I Made Purwantara stated at the location.

According to residents, Sumarna had previously reprimanded a group of youths who were about to commit acts of vandalism in the vital infrastructure area before he disappeared. Police are investigating the possibility of a link between the dispute over the vandalism and the victim’s death.

"We have secured the victim’s belongings, such as the motorcycle he used for work and his handheld radio, though his mobile phone has not yet been recovered. We have also questioned several witnesses," he added.
