Jatiluhur Reservoir Security Guard Found Dead After Confronting Vandalism
Police are still investigating the death of Sumarna (40), a security guard at the Jatiluhur Reservoir who was found dead with his hands cuffed in the lake near the Ubrug Dam area, Purwakarta Regency, West Java. Before he was found dead, Sumarna was known to have reprimanded a group of youths who were about to commit vandalism in the vital national asset area. “The story goes that he reprimanded people who were about to do graffiti, and then the next day he was found dead,” said a resident named Warta at the scene. Sumarna was known to be on night duty when he lost contact. His colleague then conducted a search, and his body was eventually found floating at the edge of the lake around 11:00 AM local time. When found, Sumarna was still wearing his complete security guard uniform, with both hands bound by handcuffs. The police are currently investigating the case and have not ruled out a connection between the earlier dispute over the vandalism and the victim’s death. “We have secured the victim’s belongings, such as the motorcycle he used for work and his HT radio, but his mobile phone has not yet been recovered. We have also examined several witnesses,” said AKP I Made Purwanta, Head of Criminal Investigation at the Purwakarta Police.
