Jatiluhur AI Data Centre Project Temporarily Suspended, Here is the Reason
The West Java Provincial Government has confirmed that the construction of an artificial intelligence (AI) based data centre in the Jatiluhur area, Purwakarta Regency, has been temporarily suspended. This is because several construction requirements, including the environmental impact assessment (AMDAL) and the building construction permit (PBG), are still in progress.
The Head of the West Java Communication and Informatics Department, Adi Komar, stated that the West Java Provincial Government fundamentally supports the investment and development of the data centre. However, such support must be accompanied by compliance with all applicable regulations, especially given the large scale of the project.
“The West Java Provincial Government certainly supports existing developments. However, there are several aspects regarding rules and the fulfilment of applicable provisions that we are concerned about, as the scale is quite large,” said Adi when contacted on Tuesday (29/09/2026).
AMDAL and PBG Not Yet Completed
Adi explained that the authority for construction permits lies with the Purwakarta Regency Government, while the West Java Provincial Government plays a role in supervision and coordination. Construction permit documents, including the PBG and the AMDAL process, are requirements that must be fulfilled before construction proceeds.
“The permits for AMDAL and PBG are issued by Purwakarta Regency. The Governor was very thorough; when several processes were confirmed, one of which was the AMDAL, it turned out to still be in progress,” he revealed.
“Therefore, after the inspection, because it is still being processed by the Purwakata Environmental Agency, the project work was halted. It has been temporarily suspended while the process continues,” he added.
According to Adi, the West Java Provincial Government has requested that the company building the data centre comply with licensing regulations. Meanwhile, the local government has been asked not to complicate the processing of AMDAL or PBG permits.
“The Governor also emphasised to the relevant parties—from consultants to the Environmental Agency—to ensure that everyone works swiftly. This means the consultants must conduct thorough assessments, and secondly, the local government must not cause delays, as we respect and value the efforts and trust of the private sector to invest in West Java, specifically in Purwakarta,” he concluded.
