Jati Pinggir Green Open Space to Feature Public Facilities and Culinary Centre

The Central Jakarta Parks and Urban Forest Agency will develop the border area of the West Flood Canal (BKB) in Jati Pinggir, Petamburan, into a green open space equipped with sports facilities, a multipurpose hall, and a culinary area. Head of the Central Jakarta Parks and Urban Forest Agency, Mila Ananda, stated that the development is an effort to restore the riverbank’s function as a green belt that can be utilised by the public. “This is a function restoration activity. The riverbank should be a green belt. It will later be used as a public interaction space, so anyone can use this location according to its designation as a green open space,” Mila said in Jakarta on Wednesday. She explained that the development is being carried out in the Jati Pinggir area, stretching from around the railway tracks to the Textile Museum, covering a length of approximately one kilometre with a width varying between 7 and 11 metres, totalling around 7,000 square metres. As part of the development, the government will also construct a semi-permanent multipurpose hall that residents can use for various community activities. Additionally, the area will be equipped with children’s playgrounds and sports facilities, while retaining two of the three existing sports fields. According to Mila, the potential city view of Central Jakarta’s buildings will also be leveraged as an attraction to make the area a new public space icon in Central Jakarta. She emphasised that the development also accommodates traders who have been operating at the location. Following a curation process with relevant regional agencies, traders will be placed in a semi-permanent multi-storey building. “For now, the capacity is around 20 traders. We are also preparing space for expansion should there be CSR support in the future for the culinary area development,” she said. Mila revealed that this initiative is the result of lengthy discussions with the community through forums held from October to November last year, involving neighbourhood and community units, traders, and local community organisations. The development work contract has been signed, and the project implementation falls under the Central Jakarta Parks and Urban Forest Agency. The government is targeting the completion of all area development works by November 2026 so that the new green open space can be immediately utilised by the public.
