Jatanras PMJ Arrests Robber Who Held Minimarket Employees Hostage in Bekasi
The Jatanras Sub-directorate of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police’s General Criminal Investigation Directorate has arrested a perpetrator of violent theft targeting a minimarket in the South Bekasi area. The suspect brazenly brandished an object resembling a pistol to drain over ten million rupiah from the safe and held store employees captive.
The robbery occurred at a minimarket outlet on Jalan Surya Raya, Jaka Setia Village, South Bekasi District, Bekasi City, on Thursday morning (18/6/2026) around 07:15 WIB.
Head of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Jatanras Sub-directorate, AKBP Abdul Rahim, confirmed the arrest. The suspect, identified by the initials ARM (20), was apprehended at his hideout less than 24 hours after committing the crime.
“Alhamdulillah, the team from the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Jatanras has arrested the perpetrator,” said AKBP Rohim when confirmed on Saturday (20/6/2026).
AKBP Rohim explained that ARM was taken into custody on Friday (19/6) at around 10:30 WIB in the Kampung Cibeber area, Simpangan, North Cikarang, Bekasi Regency. The swift disclosure was the result of crime scene investigation and analysis of CCTV footage from the location.
“After receiving the official report, the team immediately moved to conduct intensive field investigations and successfully mapped the perpetrator’s location, leading to a forced arrest attempt,” he added.
Meanwhile, Kanit 2 Jatanras of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, AKP Reza Arif Hadafi, detailed the chronology of the incident, where the perpetrator acted alone by disguising himself as a customer wearing a hat, hoodie, and mask.
“The perpetrator entered the store and walked directly to the cashier’s desk. Suddenly, he pulled out an object resembling a firearm from his clothing and pointed it at the employees on duty,” said AKP Reza Arif.
Under the threat of the weapon, the two cashiers were forced and escorted by the perpetrator to the safe room located on the second floor. The perpetrator then forced the victims to open the main safe.
“The perpetrator ordered the victim to put the cash from the safe into a black plastic bag he had prepared. After draining the money, the perpetrator left and locked both victims inside the safe room from the outside,” explained AKP Reza Arif.
Before fleeing, the perpetrator went back downstairs and broke into the cashier’s desk drawer to take additional cash and several packs of cigarettes from the display. The total loss suffered by the minimarket is estimated to be around Rp12 million.
Kanit 3 Jatanras of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Kompol Muh Ridwan, revealed that police seized a number of items from the suspect, including a lighter shaped like a firearm that was used to intimidate the victims at the scene.
“The weapon used by the perpetrator to threaten the victims was not a real firearm, but a gas lighter shaped like a pistol,” Kompol Muh Ridwan disclosed.
In addition to the pistol-shaped lighter, police also confiscated the remaining stolen money, several packs of cigarettes, a shopping bag, and all the clothing, hat, and mask worn by the perpetrator during the crime.
“Currently, the suspect ARM along with all the evidence has been secured at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Headquarters. The suspect is charged under Article 479 of the Criminal Code concerning Theft with Violence,” concluded Kompol Muh Ridwan.
