State-owned insurer PT Asuransi Jasa Indonesia (Jasindo) is transforming its corporate social responsibility approach into an integrated Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategy. The programme’s implementation has already reached more than 5,000 beneficiaries and empowered 200 micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) across 10 locations in various regions of Indonesia.

Jasindo Corporate Secretary Brellian Gema Widayana stated that the transformation was undertaken to address the challenges of climate change, local economic inequality, and low protection literacy within the community. “Jasindo is initiating a strategic transformation through the Narasemesta and Peken Jasindo programmes. This is not merely philanthropic action, but an ESG communication architecture that transforms environmental risks and community economic vulnerabilities into opportunities for shared value creation,” Brellian said in a written statement on Tuesday.

According to Brellian, Jasindo’s ESG strategy is implemented through three main pillars: environmental, social, and governance. On the environmental front, the company runs the Narasemesta programme, which focuses on environmental conservation, strengthening community resilience, and supporting the green economy. For the social pillar, Jasindo developed the Peken Jasindo programme, which concentrates on empowering MSMEs, improving insurance literacy, and expanding market access for business actors. Meanwhile, the governance pillar involves strengthening the ESG approach through enhanced collaboration with stakeholders.

The programme has been implemented in various areas, including Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara. Through Narasemesta, the company carried out stunting prevention initiatives for children and pregnant women in Tetaf Village, South Central Timor Regency. In the same area, Peken Jasindo engaged 100 MSMEs in a bazaar supported by 40 business stalls. The company also supports the development of the Kupang Sunday Market for MSMEs (SABOAK) as a local creative economy hub.

Beyond these two flagship programmes, Jasindo also operates the Satyaraga Jasindo programme, which focuses on improving insurance protection literacy and strengthening community engagement at the grassroots level. Brellian emphasised that Jasindo aims to strengthen its position as an insurance company that not only plays a role in risk mitigation but also supports green economic development. “Our vision is to build Jasindo’s positioning as a pioneering insurance company that is adaptive to social and environmental issues, through communication that prioritises transparency, risk literacy, and sustainable impact,” he explained.

He added that these programmes are expected to increase awareness of ESG implementation, strengthen stakeholder engagement, generate environmental impact, and boost social and economic empowerment, while also enhancing the company’s reputation. Jasindo plans to further expand the implementation of its ESG programmes as part of its sustainable business strategy, while strengthening collaboration with various stakeholders to support more inclusive and sustainable economic growth.
