Jasaraharja Putera Guarantees Compensation for KMP Mutiara Sentosa II Victims
PT Jasaraharja Putera has guaranteed protection and compensation for all victims of the ferry fire aboard KMP Mutiara Sentosa II in the waters north of Sumenep Regency, East Java, on Sunday (2/8), in accordance with applicable protection provisions.
Branch Manager of PT Jasaraharja Putera Surabaya, Hendra Guna Putra, said the company had prepared a claims-handling team to ensure that all victims’ entitlements, for both the injured and the deceased, are processed quickly, proactively, and accurately.
“We at PT Jasaraharja Putera are deeply saddened by the fire disaster that befell KMP Mutiara Sentosa II. We are fully committed to being present during this difficult time and ensuring that all compensation entitlements for the victims, both the injured and those who died, are processed quickly, proactively, and accurately in accordance with applicable protection provisions,” Hendra said in an official statement received in Jakarta on Monday.
The company confirmed that all passengers listed on the KMP Mutiara Sentosa II manifest will receive ferry accident insurance coverage in accordance with prevailing regulations.
Hendra said the company has prepared compensation of Rp75 million for deceased victims, to be paid to their lawful heirs.
A maximum of Rp75 million will also be provided to victims who suffer permanent disability as a result of the accident.
Meanwhile, injured victims are entitled to hospital treatment costs of up to Rp37.5 million.
For deceased victims without heirs, the company will provide burial costs of Rp7.5 million.
In addition to passenger protection, the company also insures motor vehicles carried aboard the vessel, with coverage amounts adjusted according to vehicle class as stipulated in the policy.
The company’s integrated claims-handling team has been stationed at the emergency post and is coordinating with the Harbour Master, the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), and the Directorate General of Sea Transportation to verify the passenger manifest.
According to Hendra, this coordination is intended to expedite the processing of victims’ entitlements and the transparent distribution of compensation.
Based on reports from the Surabaya SAR Office and the Sumenep Police, KMP Mutiara Sentosa II, sailing the Surabaya-Makassar route, caught fire on Sunday (2/8) between 06.00 and 07.00 WIB at a position 19 nautical miles north of Sapudi Island.
A combined fleet of nine vessels was deployed in the rescue operation, including KN SAR 249 Permadi, the Meratus Pematang Siantar, and the tugboat Hasnur 26.
