Jakarta (ANTARA) – PT Jasa Raharja (Persero) has expressed appreciation for an online motorcycle taxi driver in Bali who chose to cancel a journey after a foreign passenger refused to wear a helmet. The stance was regarded as a form of compliance with traffic regulations as well as an expression of responsibility in prioritising safety on the road.

The incident drew public attention after the ride-hailing driver shared his experience on his personal social media account, @alvesgodino. In the video, he recounted that the passenger was unwilling to wear a helmet, whilst he stood by the principle of “No Helmet, No Ride”. The decision meant his account was reportedly unable to receive orders for a day, affecting his income.

President Director of PT Jasa Raharja (Persero), Muhammad Awaluddin, stated that safety must be the top priority in every transport activity, including app-based transport services.

“Jasa Raharja appreciates the attitude of this online motorcycle taxi driver, who chose to remain compliant with safety rules even though he had to face consequences to his income. That decision shows that safety must not be compromised for any reason, including pressure from situations in the field,” said Awaluddin.

According to him, the use of helmets by both motorcycle drivers and passengers is not merely an administrative obligation, but a basic form of protection proven to reduce the risk of serious injury and death from traffic accidents. For that reason, compliance with helmet use is an important part of the safety culture that must be continuously built by all road users.

Awaluddin emphasised that the courage to say “no” to dangerous practices is a form of responsibility deserving of appreciation. He hopes the attitude shown by the driver can serve as an example for all drivers and passengers alike, that safety must be placed above short-term interests.

Head of PT Jasa Raharja (Persero) Bali Region, Abdillah, also stated that road safety is a shared responsibility that must become part of the culture, particularly in Bali as an international tourist destination.

“Safety must be a priority for every road user. The driver’s firm adherence to the principle of ‘No Helmet, No Ride’ is a concrete example that safety rules must be enforced consistently. We invite all members of the public, including tourists active in Bali, to respect the applicable traffic regulations in order to protect themselves and other road users,” said Abdillah.

Jasa Raharja also called on all members of the public, including foreign tourists active in Indonesia, to respect and comply with the applicable traffic regulations. The use of helmets, along with adherence to traffic signs and rules, is a simple step that can save lives.
