Jakarta — Participants in the 2026 free mudik programme operated by state-owned enterprises (SOEs) will receive insurance protection from PT Jasa Raharja. The compensation provided reaches Rp 20 million for injury victims and Rp 50 million for fatalities. Chief Executive Officer of PT Jasa Raharja Muhammad Awaluddin explained that this protection forms part of the basic guarantee for all participants. “For injuries—whether minor, moderate, or severe—the compensation is Rp 20 million. Meanwhile, in cases of death, the compensation is Rp 50 million, and it will be distributed to beneficiaries within 48 hours,” said Awaluddin in Jakarta on Tuesday, 17 March 2026. “All participants are guaranteed insurance coverage. Within the ticket there is a mandatory contribution component that serves as insurance premium guaranteed by the state through Jasa Raharja,” Awaluddin added. Traffic accident trends during the mudik period have shown improvement in recent years. Data from 2025 recorded a decline in accidents of approximately 13 per cent compared to 2024. A decline also occurred in fatality numbers, with fatalities dropping by approximately 52 per cent compared to the previous year. “What we prioritise most is the fatality rate. In 2025, the number of fatalities dropped significantly by 52 per cent compared to the previous year,” he said. The period of 13–14 March 2026 recorded a decline in fatalities of approximately 45 per cent. “In the first two days, 13–14 March 2026, fatalities were recorded as declining by approximately 45 per cent. Although this is still preliminary data, we hope this trend will be maintained until the end of the mudik period,” he said.
