Jasa Raharja Guarantees Compensation for All Victims of KM Mutiara Sentosa II Fire in Sumenep Waters
PT Jasa Raharja (Persero) guarantees all victims of the KM Mutiara Sentosa II fire incident, which occurred around 07:00 WIB in the northern waters of Sumenep, Madura Islands, East Java, on Sunday (2/8/2026). The vessel, which serves the Surabaya–Makassar route, caught fire while at sea. Evacuation processes and victim identification are currently being conducted by the relevant authorities.
The President Director of Jasa Raharja, Muhammad Awaluddin, stated that all legitimate passengers of KM Mutiara Sentosa II are covered by Jasa Raharja in accordance with the provisions of Law Number 33 of 1964 concerning the Mandatory Passenger Accident Insurance Fund. “Our main focus at this time is to ensure that the entire identification and data collection process for victims proceeds quickly and accurately so that the rights of the victims and their heirs can be fulfilled according to applicable regulations,” he said.
According to preliminary data from Basarnas, 225 passengers have been successfully evacuated as of Sunday afternoon, while 5 passengers have been reported dead. This data remains provisional and will be updated periodically based on official field reports.
Through its East Java Regional Office and Pamekasan Branch Office, Jasa Raharja has engaged in intensive coordination with KSOP Kalianget, Basarnas, Sumenep Police, and other relevant agencies. Jasa Raharja officers are also stationed at the Kalianget Port Joint Command Post in Sumenep and the Tanjung Perak Port Command Post to monitor the progress of the evacuation and victim identification processes.
“Jasa Raharja is committed to providing fast, accurate, and humane service to the victims and their families. We will continue to coordinate with all related parties to ensure that the insurance process and the settlement of victims’ rights can be completed as quickly as possible,” Awaluddin added.
