Jakarta (ANTARA) - The President Director of PT Jasa Marga (Persero) Tbk, Rivan A. Purwantono, has urged road users to avoid the peak return traffic during Eid al-Fitr.

“Given the still high outbound traffic leaving the Jabotabek area up to H+1 of Eid, Jasa Marga urges the public who are currently still in their hometowns to plan their return journeys to Jabotabek by avoiding the predicted peak return traffic periods on 24, 28, and 29 March 2026,” Rivan stated in Jakarta on Monday.

He added that for road users with flexible schedules, they could shift their return journeys to Jabotabek during the Work From Anywhere (WFA) period on Wednesday to Friday (25-27 March 2026) to avoid vehicle density during the peak return traffic.

Additionally, the public can take advantage of the 30% toll discount programme implemented during the return traffic period on 26-27 March 2026 on nine Jasa Marga Group toll roads with a continuous journey scheme, as an effort to encourage more even traffic distribution and minimise potential congestion.

“To avoid vehicle build-up, we urge the public not to travel during favourite times such as morning and evening, and to anticipate potential density on routes to tourist destinations which generally experience increased traffic volume after the Eid al-Fitr celebrations,” Rivan said.

Jasa Marga stated that the outbound traffic volume leaving the Jabotabek area from H-10 to H+1 of the Eid al-Fitr 1447H/2026 holiday period, or from 11-22 March 2026, reached 2,217,462 vehicles.

This figure is the cumulative traffic flow from four main Toll Gates (GT), namely GT Cikampek Utama (towards Trans Java), GT Kalihurip Utama (towards Bandung), GT Cikupa (towards Merak), and GT Ciawi (towards Puncak). The total outbound traffic volume from Jabotabek increased by 27.1% compared to normal traffic (1,744,683 vehicles).

Rivan said that the 2.2 million vehicles that have left Jabotabek represent 62.8% of the total projection of 3.5 million vehicles expected to exit Jabotabek during the 11-31 March 2026 period.

For the distribution of outbound traffic from Jabotabek to three main directions, the majority of 1,215,870 vehicles (54.9%) headed east (Trans Java and Bandung), 555,339 vehicles (25.0%) headed west (Merak), and 446,253 vehicles (20.1%) headed south (Puncak).

Rivan explained that on H+1 of the Eid al-Fitr 1447H/2026 holiday (Sunday, 22 March 2026), outbound traffic from Jabotabek at the four main toll gates remained high.

Outbound traffic from Jabotabek was recorded at 210,209 vehicles, an increase of 57.3% compared to normal (133,637 vehicles). Meanwhile, the inbound traffic volume to Jabotabek at the four main toll gates was recorded at 170,681 vehicles, still 2.9% lower than normal traffic (175,739 vehicles).
