Jakarta—Eid al-Fitr celebrations in 1447 Hijriah, coinciding with the third week of March 2026, are expected to prompt approximately 144 million Indonesians to undertake the annual mudik (homecoming) journey.

Rivan A. Purwantono, President Director of PT Jasa Marga Tbk (JSMR), confirmed the state-owned toll road operator’s strategy and readiness to optimise toll road operations and ensure smooth traffic flow during both the outbound mudik period and return journey in 2026.

Jasa Marga has conducted comprehensive studies and strengthened its strategic approach beginning six months prior to the holiday period. Key preparations include increasing the number of surveillance cameras equipped with intelligent traffic analysis (ITA) technology.

Approximately 3.6 million vehicles, a 1.4% increase from 2025, are projected to traverse Jasa Marga toll roads during the Eid holiday period. Traffic distribution is estimated at 50% towards the Trans-Java corridor, 28% towards Merak, and 20% towards Bogor.

In addition to infrastructure enhancements, Jasa Marga is collaborating with the National Traffic Police (Korlantas Polri), the Meteorological, Climatological and Geophysical Agency (BMKG), and other relevant stakeholders to anticipate extreme weather conditions. The preparation includes deployment of 490 patrol, security, and recovery vehicles throughout the network.
