Jasa Marga Prepares Alternative Rest Areas for Eid Return Traffic
JAKARTA – The surge in return traffic for Eid 2026 is beginning to feel significant, particularly towards the Jabodetabek region. PT Jasa Marga has recorded a substantial increase in vehicle volumes, which could lead to congestion not only on toll roads but also at rest areas.
Jasa Marga’s President Director, Rivan A. Purwantono, stated that the number of vehicles returning to Jabodetabek on H+5 of Eid experienced a sharp spike.
According to him, the traffic volume returning to the Jabotabek area on H+5 of Eid al-Fitr 1447H/2026 (Thursday, 26 March 2026) reached 192,122 vehicles, an increase of 43.1 per cent compared to normal levels (134,273 vehicles).
Rivan also noted that congestion is not only triggered by high vehicle volumes but also by the activities of returnees crowding rest areas along the toll roads.
“Therefore, we urge the public to optimise the use of alternative rest areas along the Trans-Java Toll Road section,” said Rivan in an official statement on Friday (27/3/2026).
Several rest areas on the main route towards Jakarta are predicted to experience high density. Points to watch out for include sections on Palikanci and Cipali, which are favourite routes for returnees.
As an alternative, returnees are advised to plan their journeys by utilising alternative rest areas, such as at KM 360B and KM 380B on the Batang-Semarang section, or further along at KM 130B on the Cipali section.
“After resting, road users can continue their journey through the same toll gate without incurring additional fees,” said Rivan.
