Jasa Marga Predicts Peak Return Traffic on 29 March, 250,000 Vehicles Head to Jakarta
PT Jasa Marga (Persero) Tbk projects that the peak of the Eid al-Fitr return traffic in 2026 will occur on Sunday, 29 March 2026. The volume of vehicles heading towards Jakarta is estimated to exceed 250,000 units in one day.
Jasa Marga’s President Director, Rivan A. Purwantono, revealed that this prediction is based on intensive monitoring of vehicle movement trends during this year’s mudik and return periods.
“The provisional prediction aligns with current trends, around 250,000 on the 29th,” said Rivan during an inspection of the return traffic at the Jasa Marga Toll Road Command Centre (JMTC) in Bekasi on Wednesday (25/3).
To avoid total congestion on the toll roads, the government urges the public to travel earlier. One of the incentives prepared is a 30% toll discount programme.
This price reduction applies limited to the return traffic period from 26 to 27 March 2026. Rivan emphasised that this policy is deliberately implemented to distribute vehicle volumes and prevent accumulation at the weekend.
“Why place the toll discount from the start on the 26th and 27th? Because it is to disperse or distribute,” he explained.
Jasa Marga assures the readiness of technological infrastructure such as traffic counting and volume to capacity ratio (V/C ratio) indicators. This real-time data serves as the primary reference for the police and Jasa Marga in determining traffic engineering.
One-way (one way) and contraflow systems will be implemented situationally depending on the density levels in the field. Rivan also highlighted the pattern of density that typically increases from afternoon to evening.
“Choose the right time, the right conditions, and then listen to the information provided,” added Rivan.
In addition to technical preparations, road users are advised to ensure sufficient electronic money balances, the physical condition of drivers, and vehicle readiness. Evaluations are also continuously conducted at several service points, including rest areas, to guarantee the smooth flow of return traffic until the end of the 2026 Eid holiday period.
