PT Jasa Marga (Persero) Tbk has announced that the peak homebound traffic for Eid 2026 is estimated to occur on 18 March, whilst the peak return traffic is expected on 24 March.

“The estimate is approximately 3.5 million vehicles, with the peak homebound flow expected on 18 March. However, we anticipate flows will begin from this Friday,” said Jasa Marga Chief Executive Officer Rivan A. Purwantono during a media briefing in Jatiasih, Bekasi on Tuesday.

The prediction reflects the extended holiday period, which provides a suitable opportunity for people to travel whilst allowing them to choose optimal times to avoid peak congestion. The return traffic peak is projected for 24 March, which falls on H+3 of Eid (three days after Eid).

Rivan noted that the return peak on H+3 is partly due to some travellers dividing their family visits in Jakarta before returning home, whilst others extend their stay through the end of the holiday period.

“What requires attention is the 50 per cent of traffic heading east, which will further split into 57 per cent towards Trans Jawa and 43 per cent towards Cipularang. Typically, congestion at kilometre 66 occurs due to approximately 50 per cent higher vehicle volume heading towards Trans Jawa,” Rivan stated.

Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi reported that traffic congestion during Eid 1447 Hijriah/2026 is projected to occur on 16 and 18 March based on simulation modelling of population movement patterns during this period.

The government has proposed a work-from-anywhere (WFA) policy to help reduce homebound traffic congestion, and this policy has received presidential approval. For the homebound period, the WFA policy is planned for 16 and 17 March, allowing the public flexibility in their travel timing before peak traffic congestion occurs.
