Jasa Marga Commits to Green Toll Road Management and Sustainable Rest Area Transformation
State-owned toll road operator PT Jasa Marga (Persero) Tbk, together with its subsidiaries, is conducting simultaneous tree planting across its entire operational area throughout June 2026 as a tangible action to commemorate World Environment Day 2026. A ceremonial event was held at the Travoy Rest KM 792A on the Gempol-Pasuruan Toll Road in East Java.
“The momentum of World Environment Day 2026 is being optimised by the company to strengthen sustainable toll road infrastructure development through the Green Toll Road initiative, the Green Corridor programme, and the transformation of rest areas as part of the Jasa Marga Group’s green ecosystem,” said Jasa Marga President Director Rivan A. Purwantono in a written statement in Jakarta on Thursday (25/6/2026).
Rivan stated that the company’s commitment to implementing sustainability principles is realised through various initiatives, including the development of green toll roads, environmentally friendly rest area management, and regular tree-planting programmes. He noted that tree planting is part of a long-term investment to create a better life in the future.
“All these initiatives are part of Jasa Marga’s efforts to create added value for the community, the environment, and relevant stakeholders in a sustainable manner,” Rivan said.
During the programme at Travoy Rest KM 792A, 200 pule trees were planted in the rest area. The pule tree was chosen for its excellent carbon absorption and oxygen production capabilities, relatively minimal leaf litter making maintenance easier, and a strong, deep root system.
Rivan explained that this action is part of a programme to plant more than 7,000 trees across Jasa Marga Group’s toll roads and rest areas in commemoration of World Environment Day 2026, while also marking the integration of toll road corridor greening and facility arrangement. He stated that the greening programme provides measurable benefits, including ecological benefits such as improved air quality, increased green open spaces, enhanced water absorption capacity, and the ability to provide more accurate environmental impact measurements as tangible evidence of the company’s ESG implementation.
Rivan announced that Jasa Marga is introducing a digital monitoring system this year capable of measuring carbon footprints, monitoring tree growth periodically, and calculating potential carbon offsets. This collaboration forms the foundation for the development of the Green Corridor, which will be implemented in stages across all Jasa Marga Group tree-planting locations.
“Jasa Marga consistently realises sustainable greening programmes every year,” Rivan added.
The company planted 14,267 trees in 2023, 50,762 trees in 2024, and 31,130 trees in 2025. Jasa Marga is committed to increasing this number each year, both along toll roads and in rest areas. Beyond strengthening the green corridor along toll roads, Rivan said Jasa Marga is also continuously transforming rest areas into modern, comfortable, and economically valuable public spaces.
“The Travoy Rest revitalisation integrates service aspects, MSME empowerment, and environmental sustainability,” Rivan stated.
He explained that the revitalisation is also part of the Green Toll Road development, which not only improves service quality for toll road users but also supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Concrete steps in the Travoy Rest rejuvenation include the arrangement of MSME tenant facades, updating of signage and landscaping, improvement of public facilities such as toilets and seating areas, and strengthening the competence of frontliner staff.
Rivan noted that the transformation of Travoy Rest is part of the company’s strategy to optimise assets through customer experience-based area development while supporting the increase in the company’s other operating revenues. The contribution of the company’s rest area business to other operating revenues continues to show a positive trend.
“In 2025, the company recorded other operating revenues from rest areas of Rp783.2 billion, growing 21.7 percent compared to Rp643.6 billion in 2024,” Rivan said.
Rivan stated that all these initiatives are also aligned with Danantara Indonesia’s mission to build State-Owned Enterprises that continuously create sustainable value for society. Jasa Marga is committed to continuously increasing added value by optimising productive assets that can deliver economic, social, and environmental sustainability impacts while prioritising customer needs.
