Jasa Marga CEO: Eid Traffic Smooth, Cawang-Banyumanik 5 Hours 41 Minutes
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - PT Jasa Marga (Persero) Tbk’s President Director, Rivan A Purwantono, claimed that traffic flow during the 2026 Eid holiday period has run smoothly so far, based on average vehicle speeds on toll roads.
He made this statement in response to Kompas.com after the Joint Return Flow Monitoring press conference in Bekasi, West Java, on Wednesday (25/3/2026).
He explained that traffic smoothness cannot be judged solely from conditions at specific points but must be viewed overall through average journey times.
“So we use averages; we can’t assess smoothness just from a snippet of the whole. For example, we use the methodology of looking from Cawang to Banyumanik,” he said.
Meanwhile, the average vehicle speed was recorded between 73 kilometres per hour and 82 kilometres per hour.
“That’s smooth. So what’s categorised as smooth is when the wheels are still moving,” he said.
Rivan added that congestion can still occur in certain conditions, such as due to weather or road incidents.
However, he considered this normal and not reflective of the overall traffic flow.
According to him, the smoothness of the homecoming and return flows is inseparable from the planning and inter-agency coordination carried out beforehand.
“The traffic engineering carried out by the police has been very good, so everything is working according to what was prepared to anticipate the volume of flow,” he said.
In addition, communication to the public also plays an important role in managing vehicle flow.
He noted that the limited road capacity compared to the number of vehicles makes regulation and appeals to the public crucial.
“No matter how large the road is, its capacity is indeed not sufficient compared to the number of people going home. So, this is cooperation from all stakeholders, the public has been good, and the media has communicated well,” he added.
With this coordination, traffic flow during the Eid period is deemed manageable, allowing public journeys to proceed well.
