JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - PT Jasamarga Transjawa Tol (JTT) is accelerating the widening project on the Surabaya-Gempol toll road segment from Kejapanan to Gempol (KM 769+450 to KM 772+650).

As of the 32nd week of implementation, the work progress has reached 69.72% and is expected to have a significant impact on smoother traffic flow in one of the vital Trans Java corridors.

Vice President of Corporate Secretary & Legal at PT Jasamarga Transjawa Tol, Ria Marlinda Paallo, stated that this capacity enhancement not only focuses on physical construction but also on improving the overall travel experience for road users.

“We understand that smooth travel is the primary expectation of every road user, especially on high-mobility routes like Surabaya-Gempol,” said Ria in a written statement on Friday (17/4/2026).

“JTT strives to provide more comfortable, safe, and obstacle-free journeys, so that the public can directly feel the benefits in every trip,” Ria added.

Furthermore, this capacity improvement plays an important role in supporting more efficient logistics distribution and strengthening inter-regional connectivity in East Java.

With smoother traffic flow, travel times become more optimal, providing broader economic benefits for the community and businesses.

The scope of work includes road pavement enhancement, bridge structure work, and refinement of road equipment such as signs and markings.

All work is carried out with a focus on Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment aspects, and refers to the Minimum Service Standards (SPM) for toll roads to ensure reliable and sustainable results.

In its implementation, JTT also ensures that every stage of work is carried out in a measured manner with adaptive and situational traffic management.

This aims to allow road users to pass through safely and comfortably during the construction process.

“The capacity enhancement on this route is expected to serve as a long-term solution to anticipate future vehicle volume growth, while strengthening the role of the Trans Java Toll Road as the backbone of national connectivity,” Ria emphasised.

The widening of the Surabaya-Gempol toll road capacity, particularly on the Kejapanan-Gempol segment, is part of efforts to anticipate surges in vehicle volume and reduce potential congestion on one of the vital routes in East Java.

The capacity enhancement involves adding lanes on the route from KM 769+450 to KM 772+650, from the original two lanes to three lanes.

With this addition, smoother traffic flow is expected, especially during peak hours and long holiday periods that often cause density on that route.

Construction work began in the fourth quarter of 2025 and is targeted to be completed in 2026.

The Surabaya-Gempol toll road is one of the historic toll segments in East Java.

This toll road was first inaugurated in 1986 and serves as the main connector between Surabaya and industrial areas as well as regions in the south and east of the province.
