JAS to serve Manado

JAKARTA (JP): Japan Air System (JAS) is scheduled to open a new service route in April linking Nagoya in Japan with Manado in North Sulawesi and Denpasar in Bali, a tourism official said.

The head of the North Sulawesi Tourism Office in Manado, I Wayan Lasia, said yesterday that the new service is part of the government's efforts to develop the Manado airport of Sam Ratulangi as a major international gateway to Indonesia's eastern provinces.

JAS will conduct a promotional flight service from Nagoya to Manado next week.

"Tour operators and travel writers will join the flight and stay in North Sulawesi for four days," he was quoted by Antara as saying.

Some 35,000 foreign tourists and 600,000 local tourists visited the province last year, according to Lasia.(13)
