Japanese biopharmaceutical company Takeda has committed to investing up to USD30 million, or approximately IDR 539 billion, over the next two years to develop an ecosystem for plasma-derived medicinal products in Indonesia. The initial phase of the investment will focus on building a network of plasma banks, which will serve as the foundation for the national plasma industry. Minister of Investment and Downstreaming Rosan P. Roeslani stated that the investment reflects growing global investor confidence in Indonesia’s prospects, particularly in the health sector. He noted that the strategic investment would not only bring additional capital but also open opportunities for technology transfer, human resource development, and the creation of high-skilled jobs. The government continues to encourage investments that add value and strengthen national industrial capacity, aiming to position Indonesia as a regional hub for health manufacturing and innovation. The partnership aligns with the economic transformation agenda through downstreaming in strategic sectors, including health, to enhance national industrial competitiveness and strengthen Indonesia’s role in the global supply chain. Japan remains one of Indonesia’s key investment partners, ranking as the fifth-largest investor in the first quarter of 2026 with realised investment of USD1 billion. From 2021 to the first quarter of 2026, total Japanese investment realisation reached USD18.1 billion, with an average growth of 13.2% and employment absorption of 299,460 workers. Through the collaboration with Takeda, the government hopes to improve public access to essential plasma-derived medicines while building a competitive, innovative, and sustainable biopharmaceutical industry ecosystem. The first plasma bank is targeted to commence operations in 2027 as part of the development of a national plasma network that meets international standards.
