Japan's Q2 2026 GDP Growth Revised Up to 1.4 Per Cent
Tokyo (ANTARA) - Japan’s economy recorded real growth of 1.4 per cent on an annual basis in the April-June 2026 quarter, up from the initial estimate of 1.1 per cent, according to government data released on Tuesday (8/9).
On a quarterly basis, real gross domestic product (GDP) adjusted for inflation grew 0.4 per cent, compared with the preliminary figure showing a 0.3 per cent increase, the Cabinet Office said.
The main change in the revised figures came from capital spending, as a smaller decline in business investment provided a boost to the overall GDP figure.
Business investment fell 0.9 per cent in the second quarter (Q2), a smaller drop than the initial estimate of a 1.2 per cent decline.
Private consumption, which accounts for more than half of Japan’s economy, was unchanged from the initial data.
External demand, or exports minus imports, contributed 0.5 percentage points to GDP growth, unchanged from the initial estimate, whilst domestic demand subtracted 0.1 percentage points from growth, an improvement over the previous estimate showing a drag of 0.2 percentage points.
