TOKYO (AFP): Japan said Friday it was extending development
loans worth 95.67 billion yen (US$894 million) to help with a
range of infrastructure projects in Thailand.
The state-run Japan Bank for International Cooperation said
the money, its 25th aid package for Thailand, would support five
projects including the construction of a new international
airport for Bangkok.
The low interest-rate package, "aimed at social and economic
development over the medium and long term, will provide continued
support for major infrastructure projects," the bank said in a
statement.
These include road improvements, subway construction, and
measures to upgrade water supply in Thailand, it said.
The latest package brings the bank's total lending to Thailand
to 1,879 billion yen.
