Japan's loan for power project

SURABAYA, E Java (Antara): The Japanese government has extended US$75,868 for the development of a small-scale electricity network in Sebamban Baru village in Banjarmasin district, South Kalimantan province.

The memorandum of understanding on the financial assistance was signed by Japanese Consul General in Surabaya, Minoru Ishida, in Banjarmasin on Friday.

Present at the ceremony was the provincial chairman of the Kalimantan Berseri non-governmental organization, Muhammad Soekamto, the person responsible for the project.

Ishida said the electricity network would help the villagers expand their small-scale industries, and give them light in their homes and public facilities.

Sebamban is occupied by about 380 families, who have resettled from the islands of Java, Madura and Bali to the village in the past 20 years.
