The Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/Investment Coordinating Board of the Republic of Indonesia (BKPM RI), together with Japanese agency JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) and the East Java Provincial Investment and One-Stop Integrated Services Office (DPMPTSP), conducted a site survey for a planned bioethanol plant in Katur Village, Gayam District, Bojonegoro Regency, East Java, on Wednesday (28/05/2025).

Officials from BKPM RI and the Japanese company were accompanied on the on-site visit for the bioethanol industrial programme at the Gayam Industrial designated area by representatives from Bojonegoro's DPMPTSP, Katur Village Head Sukono, the Bojonegoro Forest Management Unit (KPH) and its staff, forest farmer groups, the Gayam sub-district leadership forum (Forkopimcam), and other related parties.

Katur Village Head Sukono expressed strong support for the planned establishment of a bioethanol plant in the village, noting that the factory would open up employment opportunities for local residents, particularly those in Katur Village.

"We certainly very much support the plan to establish this bioethanol plant, as it can create job opportunities for residents and thereby reduce existing unemployment," said Village Head Sukono on the sidelines of the site survey.

Beyond reducing unemployment, the village head — whose area is located near the Banyu Urip oil field in the Cepu Block — added that the plant could also boost the local economy, particularly for farmers near the forest areas, as the factory would require agricultural raw materials, including maize.

"So farmers will be able to improve their economic situation from their maize harvests," he added.

"I certainly support and am very pleased about this bioethanol plant, as maize harvests can be fully absorbed," said Rohmad, a forest farmer.

Following the survey of maize farming locations in the forest area of Kapol Hamlet, Katur Village, the delegation proceeded to Gayam Village Hall in Gayam District, Bojonegoro Regency, East Java, for discussions with relevant parties.
