Japanese Padel Athlete Uses Indonesia as Career Base
Indonesia is beginning to emerge as a key base for the career development of international professional padel athletes. Japanese padel athlete Chifumi Sato has selected Indonesia as the place to enhance his skills and prepare for various global competitions, with the target of breaking into the world’s top 150 rankings.
Chifumi Sato believes that the development of the padel ecosystem in Indonesia is a significant factor supporting his career journey. The growth in the number of courts, players, and the organisation of padel tournaments in the country provides a competitive environment for professional athletes to continue progressing.
“I want to repay the trust given to me through maximum performance, dedication in daily activities, and the process of self-development as a professional athlete. My main target is to break into the top 150 in the world. Although it is not an easy target, the support I receive allows me to prepare more optimally for various important international tournaments, including the 20th Asian Games in September 2026,” said Chifumi Sato.
To support this endeavour, PT Bank JTrust Indonesia Tbk (J Trust Bank) has entered into a one-year sponsorship agreement with Chifumi Sato. This support covers training needs, physical preparation, competition travel, and participation in international tournaments.
President Director of J Trust Bank, Ritsuo Fukadai, stated that the support for Chifums Sato is part of the company’s commitment to encouraging young generations who possess the spirit to grow and compete at an international level.

Chifumi Sato, born in Tokyo on 7 October 2000, has been a member of the Japanese national padel team since 2019. He currently holds the fifth rank in Asia and has achieved several notable results, including winning the DEWA Open in Jakarta in August 2025, becoming the runner-up at The Tamora Trophy in Bali in 2026, and reaching the semi-finals of the FIP Bronze Phangan 2026.
In addition to targeting a position in the world’s top 150, Chifumi also aims to become one of the top four padel players in Japan and to win titles in the Premier Padel circuit. In the long term, he hopes to strengthen Japan’s presence in international competitions, potentially reaching the Olympic stage.
According to Chifumi, Indonesia possesses great potential for the development of padel. He observes the increasing public interest in the sport and the emergence of young talent as opportunities for Indonesia to build a stronger padel ecosystem.
The sponsorship of Chifumi Sato expands J Trust Bank’s support within the sports sector. Previously, the company also provided support to Indonesian professional female golfer Kristina Natalia Yoko, as well as several professional women’s golf tournaments.
Through this support, J Trust Bank hopes to help drive the development of high-achieving athletes while strengthening sporting ties between Indonesia and Japan through a sport that is growing globally.
