Tokyo (ANTARA) - Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi said on Sunday that Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi is expected to convey Tokyo’s position on the conflict involving Iran to U.S. President Donald Trump at their summit later this month. Motegi said on a television programme that Japan does not accept Iran’s development of nuclear weapons, a charge Tehran denies. He added that Takaichi is likely to exchange views with Trump on the matter in talks planned to take place in Washington on 19 March. Commenting on the conflict triggered by the February 28 attack by the U.S. and Israel on Iran, Motegi said, ‘Many countries want tensions to ease as quickly as possible. We want to hold a thorough discussion with the U.S.’ He also stated his readiness to hold telephone talks with Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. He also said that halting nuclear development, attacks on ships in the Strait of Hormuz, and support for pro-Iranian armed groups would help Iran’s prosperity and stability.
