Japanese Embassy Reveals Details of Prabowo-Takaichi Conversation
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - President Prabowo Subianto undertook an official visit to Japan at the end of March to bolster bilateral relations. During the visit, Prabowo held an important meeting with Japan’s first female Prime Minister, Sanae Takaichi.
The Charge d’Affaires of the Japanese Embassy in Jakarta, Mitsuru Myochin, explained that this meeting was a crucial moment for both countries. The two agreed to follow up on elevating the status of their relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership, which began in 2023.
“PM Takaichi expressed her hope that Japan and Indonesia would make this region stronger and more prosperous together. In response, President Prabowo expressed his desire to strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership,” Myochin said in Jakarta on Thursday (23/04/2026).
One of the main points discussed was financial assistance from the Japanese government to improve the investment climate in Indonesia. Both leaders agreed that economic strengthening must go hand in hand with improvements in the business environment for investors from both countries.
Additionally, Japan and Indonesia also confirmed cooperation in developing human resources in the industrial sector. The main focus of this development is enhancing capacity in the rapidly growing field of artificial intelligence (AI).
“The two leaders also confirmed that both countries are cooperating in industrial human resource development, including in the field of AI. This reflects President Prabowo’s desire to strengthen this partnership,” Myochin said.
Maritime cooperation was also highlighted, with PM Takaichi committing to promote Indonesia’s fishing industry. Prabowo expressed his appreciation for Japan’s support in strengthening the national maritime and fisheries sector to date.
On the other hand, disaster mitigation issues were not overlooked in the discussions. Given that both countries are in a disaster-prone region, Japanese satellite technology will be deployed for flood prevention in Indonesia.
“Takaichi expressed her intention to cooperate in flood control measures and disaster prevention using Japanese satellite technology. Japan has the technology and knowledge related to disaster management,” he stated.
