Japanese award for Sudharmono

JAKARTA (JP): The Japanese government has announced that it
would present the "Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun
Award" to Indonesian former vice president Lt. Gen. (ret)
Sudharmono.

"Sudharmono will receive the award for his meritorious
services in promoting the two countries' relations," Antara
quoted a Japanese embassy spokesman as saying.

The date and venue of the award presentation ceremony was not
disclosed.

Japanese Ambassador Takao Kawakami is expected to lead the
ceremony at his official residence.

Sudharmono, 70, served as vice president from 1988 to 1993. He
was minister/state secretary from 1972 to 1988. (prb)
