Japan to share disaster know-how
JAKARTA: Japan will share its experiences in dealing with
various types of natural disaster through a television program
that will also be broadcast in Indonesia.
The Disaster Reduction: Japan's Global Contribution program
will be aired on National Geographic Channel on two Sundays, Aug.
21 and Aug. 28, from 7 a.m. to 7:30 a.m.
The Japan Center for Intercultural Communication said in a
press release that the program would discuss Japan's resolute
commitment to international cooperation for disaster reduction,
and discuss some challenges faced in the course of the efforts.
Japan has offered a total of US$500 million to tsunami-hit
countries, and a significant amount of this is going to
Indonesia.
"The Japanese have transformed their suffering (caused by
natural disasters) into a source of wisdom, a storehouse of
expertise, technology and knowledge about preventing and reducing
future natural disasters. This valuable wisdom, developed over
the years, has enabled Japan to provide assistance to many
countries hit by similar tragic disasters," it said. -- JP
