Japan to send staff to RI

TOKYO (DPA): Japan's Finance Ministry will send staff to Thailand and Indonesia in fiscal 2000, which started April 1, to advise on financial affairs, Japan's Jiji Press reported on Monday, quoting ministry sources.

The plan is aimed at helping the two Southeast Asian nations, hit hard by the 1997 currently crisis, to improve their financial administration and achieve sustained economic growth, the report said.

Personnel from the ministry's Budget and Financial Bureaus will instruct Thai Finance Ministry officials in budget planning for public works projects, bond issues and redemption.

The ministry will also send experienced personnel from Japanese banks to support Indonesia's efforts to dispose of non- performing loans, the report said.
