Japan to Increase Visa Fees Fivefold Starting July 2026
Tokyo - The Japanese government has decided to raise the fee for single-entry visas for foreign nationals fivefold to 15,000 yen (approximately 90 US dollars) from the current 3,000 yen, effective July. The decision, marking the first increase since 1978 amid inflation and yen depreciation, was announced by Foreign Minister Motegi Toshimitsu at a press conference on Friday (19/6). Under the revision, the issuance fee for multiple-entry visas will also rise from 6,000 yen to 30,000 yen. “We do not anticipate this measure will have a direct impact on inbound tourism,” Motegi said.
